Florida photographer David Paulo, known to the world as “Leather”, tells the state’s history through his lens. While capturing the gritty nature of some of the country’s most urban areas, Leather somehow gives viewers a more delicate moment. The man of many gifts is also a digital creative, graphic designer and preservationist who’s worked with the likes of CBS Miami, WLRN, and 109 Jamz. “We all have a voice and outlook on the world and it’s important we utilize the tools around us to be heard.”
“Some of my biggest achievements are having a strong and supportive family-like support system online. With an ever-growing audience, it’s an amazing feeling to know I can be a positive source of light and a living provide for others than myself.”
After forming a solid foundation of supporters & generating revenue, “comfortable” Leather knew it was time to take his craft more seriously. Grasping the attention of 100 thousand instagram followers he plans on using his following for a greater cause. To raise awareness to the locals of South Florida and help stop the demolition of historic African American structures across the city.
Like most creatives, Leathers biggest challenges are staying consistent and not allowing comfort to mute him. It’s easy to let up on the gas once you touch a few personal accolades but the job is never done, there’s always room to become better each day. Being his son’s role model is the motivation that keeps him striving. As a man of God he desires a better world not only for himself but the others.
